Dream Property on the Shores of Lake Erie

Few homes listed on the market compare to the grandeur and sheer imagination of the Waterwood Estate. Located on the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio, this amazing property is listed for a whopping $19.5 million. The idea for this eccentric home was conceived by the late wealthy inventor Don Brown — the genius behind drop ceilings — and was made possible by the work of world-renowned architect High Newell Jacobsen. Jacobsen helped buy furniture, the art and designed the landscape. It was built in 1990, and this never-before-seen or photographed home was unveiled to the public on September 1.

Inspired by homes Brown had seen in Paris, Savannah and Georgetown, the Waterwood Estate sits on 160 acres, a marina, and 2,300 linear feet of waterfront and beachfront. The property consists of 20 castle-like concrete buildings connected by glass corridors and a helicopter pad. In total, the two-story home features 100 rooms, including five bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, 3 kitchens, 8 fireplaces, a wine grotto, a sauna, and two pools.

The lower level features a gym, a ballet room, family room and guest suite. The dining room has a rotating floor making it possible for dinner guests to have a view of the water. The home also has five bars, one with a polar bear. It also features a barber shop, where Brown would go every morning for a shave. He even has a hidden room with a fully decorated Christmas tree. The tree sits in an air-filtered room to maintain a dust-free Christmas tree that smells of pine needles.

So why is Brown’s dream home on the market? Unfortunately, the inventor and his wife were killed in a plane crash in 2010 and their two sons decided to sell the property. There are several interested buyers, including a ministry group, a group of Colorado helicopter pilots who want to turn the place into a resort, and a couple.
